Server rules & player responsibility

Protect the world.
Respect the people in it.

This page is a current practical summary of the main rules. Discord remains authoritative for live changes, full POI lists and staff clarifications.

Discord is the live source of truth

Rules, map restrictions and system behaviour can change as Hacksaw develops. Check Discord before relying on an old screenshot or cached copy of this page.

Core principle

Do not damage the server experience for other players.

Owners and administrators may remove individuals or groups whose behaviour has a sustained negative impact, even where a situation is not covered word-for-word below.

01

General conduct

Behaviour, chat and fair play across the community.

  • Duping, hacking, cheating, exploit abuse, staff impersonation and association with known cheating activity may result in a permanent ban.
  • Racism, sexism, homophobia, hate speech, bigotry, severe toxicity and targeted harassment are not tolerated.
  • English is required in global text and voice chat so moderation remains possible.
  • Do not ping staff for routine support. Use the correct ticket or report system.
  • Do not call suspected cheaters out publicly. Submit evidence privately.
  • Clips may be requested for moderation, compensation or technical claims.
  • Public voice channels are for Hacksaw players. Do not stream other servers or unrelated games there.
  • Defamatory campaigns, repeated staff-bashing and behaviour intended to undermine the community may result in removal.
02

PvE and player damage

Player damage is enabled, but PvP is not the game mode.

Do

  • Treat unexpected player damage as an incident to report, not an invitation to retaliate.
  • Use a ticket if you believe you were attacked or if AI appeared outside its expected zone.
  • Manage team crossfire carefully; friendly fire remains possible.

Do not

  • Shoot, kill, bait, grief or retaliate against other players.
  • Loot player bodies or tombstones in PvE.
  • Turn disputes over vehicles, bases, POIs or items into combat.

AI normally spawn within marked red-circle zones and dynamic-event areas. Report suspicious behaviour rather than escalating it.

03

POIs, claims and dynamic events

Claim before engagement, respect cooldowns and keep vehicles out.

  • Every listed POI must be claimed. You must be within 500 metres to claim it.
  • Nearby teammates within 100 metres are added to the claim group automatically.
  • T1–T4 claims last 45 minutes; T5 claims last 60 minutes.
  • After a claim ends, the POI enters a 45-minute cooldown.
  • A player or group cannot reclaim the same POI until the next three-hour restart cycle.
  • Grace may be activated once for the last claimed POI after it enters cooldown. It lasts 15 minutes and applies to the eligible claim group.
  • Only cancel a claim before the POI has been started. Repeated command misuse may lead to a warning.
  • Do not camp, log out, loot-cycle, intentionally spawn AI or cheese POIs.
  • POIs are no-vehicle zones. Turrets can destroy cars and helicopters inside the red markers.
  • Dynamic events claim automatically when a player enters the event zone; they do not require a manual claim.

Bases, upkeep and security

Your HQ, nails and codelocks are your responsibility.

  • A Territory HQ must be placed before other base items. Items outside its protected range may be deleted.
  • Each player must authorise themselves and rescan territory after placing new items.
  • All bases require nails in the HQ upkeep slot. No nails means decay.
  • Secure doors, gates, containers and benches with a correctly coded codelock. Merely attaching a lock without setting the code is not enough.
  • No raiding, boosting, damaging or looting player bases. Do not loot unsecured bases.
  • Players cannot give away bases. Inform staff if you are leaving.
  • Base checks take place. Bases judged to create an unfair advantage may be resized, relocated or removed.
  • Decayed, open or abandoned bases may be removed. Valuable exposed storage may be moved to CAR for auction.
  • Staff do not replace structures, loot or access lost through failed upkeep or incorrectly secured locks.

Vehicles, storage and Capital Auto Recovery

Use garages. Leaving a vehicle out means accepting repo risk.

  • Do not damage, steal, loot or grief player vehicles. Unlocked vehicles are still not free to take on Chernarus.
  • Store vehicles and helicopters in personal, group or public virtual garages.
  • Only one active personal vehicle may be left on the map at a time.
  • Helicopters and exotic vehicles require the appropriate licence.
  • Vehicles left out for more than 12 hours may be recovered by Capital Auto Recovery.
  • A six-hour warning and a twelve-hour eligibility notice may be posted before recovery.
  • Moving a vehicle slightly does not reset responsibility. Do not hide vehicles inside bases to avoid repo.
  • Once repo'd, a vehicle is not privately returned, refunded or handed back. It enters the Sunday auction process.
  • Use the garage dump function to dispose of a vehicle; do not use repo as a disposal service.
  • Do not drive or fly into red-circle restricted zones.

Auctions are part of the system

Players may bid on any repo'd vehicle at the Sunday auction, including a vehicle they previously owned.

06

Safe zones, gifting and account-bound items

Respect protected spaces and keep restricted items with their owner.

  • No stealing, scamming, griefing or voice-chat trolling in safe zones.
  • Vehicles abandoned in safe zones may be towed after one hour.
  • Players may gift ordinary items in person only.
  • Crafted items cannot be bought, sold, gifted or loaned to other players.
  • Players cannot use crafted items they did not craft.
  • HS Tokens, Reward Tokens and other token types cannot be traded, gifted or spent for another player.
  • Supporter benefits and claimable rewards are account-bound.
07

Compensation and evidence

Server faults can be reviewed; ordinary loss and player mistakes are not insured.

Claims that may be approved

  • Vehicle destroyed illegally or stolen from a safe zone.
  • Vehicle or item loss caused by a verified server restart, crash or cheater.
  • Bugged or inaccessible vehicle inventory.
  • Items not delivered by a trader.
  • Player body looted in PvE.
  • Crafted/support items lost to a verified server issue with suitable crafting and incident evidence.

Claims normally denied

  • AI damage, owner mistakes, water damage or turret zones.
  • Repo action, lost lock codes or unlocked storage.
  • Ruined, dropped, misplaced or ordinarily lost items.
  • Despawned tombstones after the recovery window.
  • Items lost in PvP, hover loot or unsecured storage.
  • Claims without the evidence staff reasonably request.
T6

Takistan expedition rules

End-game PvE with limited support and no vehicle compensation.

Takistan is not for the light-hearted.

Prepare high-calibre weapons, custom ammunition, strong armour, HS gear, food, drink and medication before crossing over.

  • There are no safe zones. PvP is still prohibited everywhere.
  • Staff support and compensation are extremely limited.
  • AI roam beyond marked areas. Expect T6 units, snipers, grenadiers, commanders, paratroopers and air support.
  • No looting player bodies or tombstones.
  • Storage is limited to what fits within your expedition tent HQ. Secure it with codelocks.
  • Each player may place one personal garage meter with one slot; group garages have one shared slot.
  • Vehicles outside a personal or group garage are generally free to take unless currently in use or beside a currently claimed POI.
  • Do not damage, threaten or attack players over vehicles or property.
  • Forbidden City is the only no-drive/no-fly zone. Do not camp, log or abuse the area.
  • Vehicle compensation is not available. Item compensation is limited to crafted items lost through a verified server issue with video evidence.
08

Staff support, tickets and patience

Use tracked channels and treat volunteers with respect.

  • General chat is not a guaranteed support channel. Open the correct ticket so your issue can be tracked.
  • A delayed answer does not mean you are being ignored. Staff may be handling reports, development, tools or real-life commitments.
  • Provide complete information, including Steam ID64, relevant order/reference numbers and unedited evidence.
  • Repeated complaints, passive-aggressive remarks, entitlement or abuse towards staff may lead to warnings, mutes or removal.
  • Hacksaw may change systems, mods, balance or content when required. Compensation is not provided merely because a system changes.
  • The server restarts every three hours: 00:00, 03:00, 06:00, 09:00, 12:00, 15:00, 18:00 and 21:00 GMT.
